I’ll give you a shocking analysis. No one spends INR 800 on electricity consumption of an AC.
The bill is more as compared with the promises of ISEER and brands. To know the reason behind this, you have to do two things- 1) read this till the end without skipping 2) read carefully to the message at the end. Friends, let’s discuss some important points about AC. Let’s begin.
First let’s discuss size of the AC. If your room is 130sqft then you must buy a 1 ton AC. If it is 130sqft-200sqft then you must go for a 1.5 ton AC. And for a room between 200sqft-300sqft, one must buy a 2 ton AC. These figures are subjected to change depending upon the sunlight and its location.
Next let’s talk about the type of AC. Buy an inverter AC if your room is sealed. For 6 hours usage for 4-5 months, buy a 3-star AC. For more than 6 hours usage for 5-6 months, buy a 5-star inverter AC. For non-sealed rooms, godowns or shops, non-inverter AC are suitable.
It is important to know the Indian Season Energy Efficiency Ratio (ISEER), known as star-rating in normal words. The power consumption of an AC given right above is checked in test conditions. It is checked on test conditions by operating AC for 1600 hours or above. See this graph for correct information. I am taking a 1.5 ton AC with 5 ISEER rating and it consumes 800 units of electricity in a year. It has a compressor motor of 1300W. With backwards calculations we can say that this AC consumes 800 units with only 615W motor.
Its compressor’s motor works on just 615W for the whole year. In simple words, on 50% capacity the electricity bill will be 800 units per year. But did it happen in the real world? Have you ever received INR600 electricity bill for AC? An inverter AC can save up to 25% of the electricity bill. Brands claim of 50-60% savings is misleading. Let’s calculate again and check the electricity bill. With same AC and 1600 hours, this AC will consume 2080 units per year on 100% capacity. After decreasing 25% savings because of inverter AC, the result is 1560 units per year. This is double the power consumption written above ISEER rating. One thing we ignore is installation charges. Brands usually charge INR1000-2000 as installation charges + INR3000-INR4000 extra for copper pipes, stands etc. apart from this is the cost of stabilizer for inverter AC. Don’t fall the claims of stabilizer free operation. Whether you live in Delhi or Bombay, whether there are electricity fluctuations or not, a stabilizer is must for inverter AC. That increases the actual cost of your AC by INR7000-INR8000. The indoor units of an AC have 2 noise levels- lowest and highest.
If the lowest noise level is above 40dB, then avoid that AC because it will bother you during night. Lower the noise level, better the AC.

Do not concentrate on fancy names of technologies. Concentrate on the pros and cons instead. I’ll tell best ac brand in india.

number 4 in my list is Daikin 1.5 ton 5-star AC

This  is actually 1.42 ton AC. Obviously this is a inverter compressor AC with 100% copper condenser. It comes with Coanda airflow which means that it gives a good airflow. It has ‘neo swing technology’ which means a 4-way-airflow. The best part is Econo Mode which allows this AC to work on less Watt during fluctuations so that the AC doesn’t get damaged.
The Anti-Bacterial Coating on condenser prevents the Salt and Sediments from settling. Its ISEER rating 4.7 and it consumes 824 units of  electricity per year. Let’s test this claim. It has 1650W motor. By operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1780 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 3170 units on 100% efficiency. After decreasing 25% consumption as promised by inverter AC, then by
operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1335 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2380 units whereas it is 824 units per year as per star rating. Its lowest noise level is 35dB. It has 1 year comprehensive warranty, 1 year additional warranty on condenser and 10 years warranty on compressor. It costs INR 41,500.
let’s talk about pros and cons. It is a good AC for small rooms and
is perfect for- 160-170sqft. But there are 2 cons. It comes with small capacity and high power consumption. But if you are interested and have a small room,

Number 3 in my list of the best AC in India in 2021 is Hitachi

1.5 ton 5 star AC. It is actually a 1.5 ton AC with 5275W cooling capacity. It works on ‘expendable inverter technology’ which means that it can run on both less and more capacity.
It has 100% copper condenser coil and ‘auto filter cleaning technology’ which automatically cleans the filter. Its filter is made of super fine mesh material. Next 2 features are just fancy names- ‘stepless compressor control’ and ‘penta sensor’.
There work is same as the first 2 technologies. These are merely fancy names. The good thing is its condenser coils is made of 100% grooved copper and condenser fins are superslit fins which will improve the life of condenser. Its ISEER rating 4.55 and it consumes 897 units of electricity per year. Let’s test this claim. By operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1660 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2955 units on 100% efficiency. After decreasing 25% consumption as promised by inverter AC, then by operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1245 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2215 units whereas it is 897 units per year as per star rating. Its lowest noise level is 34dB.
It has 2 year comprehensive warranty, 5 year warranty on PCB and 10 years warranty on compressor, and this is very impressive. It costs INR 42,500.

let’s talk about pros and cons. It gives good cooling with silent operation. It has amazing warranty but there is 1 small con. The refrigerant used in compressor is R410A and not R32, which is the second best. But this an avoidable con,
This is one of the best AC you can buy in India in 2021.

Number 2 in my list of the best AC in India in 2021 is Carrier 1.5 ton 5 star AC.

It is actually a 1.5 ton AC with 5276W cooling capacity. It comes with ‘4-in-1 cooling modes’ which means that it can run on 4 different capacities, and this is very good. It has ‘dual filtration technology’ which means there are 2 filters which in turn is guarantee for clean air. It has 100% copper condenser with ‘aqua clear protection‘, which is a coating on condenser to prevent it from sediment and salt. Its amazing feature is ‘follow me’. The proximity sensors will follow you in the room and will provide cooling accordingly. Its ISEER rating 4.6 and it consumes 888 units of electricity per year. Let’s test this claim. By operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1620 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2880 units on 100% efficiency. After decreasing 25% consumption as promised by inverter AC, then by operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1215 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2160 units whereas it is 888 units per year as per star rating. Its lowest noise level is 38dB.
It has 1 year comprehensive warranty, 1 year additional warranty on condenser, 2 years warranty on PCB and 10 years warranty on compressor, and this is very impressive. It costs INR 42,000
and now let’s talk about pros and cons. It is a good AC and has good warranty with amazing features but there is a small con. Daikin AC has same features but less noise levels of 34dB. I know I am nit picking, but this is a good AC. .

Number 1 in my list of the best AC in India in 2021 is an AC with good cooling and lowest power consumption- Blue Star 1.5 ton 5 star AC.

It is actually a 1.43 ton AC but is known as 1.5 ton AC. It comes with ‘self-clean technology’ which means that it will automatically clean filter in turned off mode. It has 4D swing which means 4 directional air flow. It comes with anti-corrosive blue fin technology.
There is a blue colour coating on condenser which prevents it from sediment and salt. Its good feature is ‘iFeel technology’. This directs the air flow towards remote by using sensors. It comes with ‘self-diagnosis’. If there will be any problem, it will show you error codes and you can get it repaired timely. It has features like ‘dehumidifier and climate control’. Its ISEER rating 4.66 and it consumes 836 units of electricity per year. By operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1460 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 2590 units on 100% efficiency. After decreasing 25% consumption as promised by inverter AC, then by operating it for 6 hours for 6 months it consumes 1095 units and by operating it for 8 hours for 8 months it consumes 1940 units whereas it is 836 units per year as per star rating. Its lowest noise level is 35dB.
It has 1 year comprehensive warranty, 1 year additional warranty on condenser, and 10 years warranty on compressor, and this is good but with PCB warranty, it would have been amazing. It costs INR 42,500 and now let’s talk about pros and cons.
This AC has been released recently. There is 1 con that I want to tell- it has a slightly smaller capacity compressor. Its overall cooling capacity is less. It is a good AC for 170-175sqft room. It is amazing features and it is a fantastic overall AC. till this date, no models of Mitsubishi and Hitachi have been launched. The models that are available right now are of 2018 or older than that. I’ll recommend not to buy them.
ISEER ratings have changed and their power consumption is very high. Were they launched today, then their power consumption and ranking would have been different. You must not buy old models. I have given my recommended shortlisted AC’s list.
