Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar has entered into an thrilling collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) forward of International Women’s Day. The UNDP, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, intends to implement a year-long social marketing campaign, for which it the Badhaai Do actress has been roped in.
For the programme ‘Women at Work – Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Future Tomorrow’, Bhumi will elevate consciousness close to a number of points like equipping younger girls for challenges and alternatives in non-traditional roles and profession paths, the significance of making an eco-system to advertise non-traditional aspirations for younger girls, position of presidency, companies, NGOs, CSOs and people (influencers) and the significance of peer help to girls working.
Commenting on the event, Bhumi says, “Our profession pathways and decisions are sometimes influenced by folks round us and their expectations of us. It limits our aspirations; our potential to really obtain what we are able to. This is particularly related for girls and ladies given the rigorous social conditioning that they expertise.”
She further states as to how greater representation of women in the workforce is the need of the hour. “The need for more women in the workforce is not only an economic imperative but a social one as well. Our workspaces need to be inclusive, encouraging diverse skill sets and expertise. This can be made possible when women occupy spaces in leading roles, breaking stereotypes, and barriers inspiring others especially, young girls to aspire and realize their full potential,” she says.
Sharing her ideas on the affiliation with UNDP, the actress says, “I’m more than happy to be a part of UNDP’s International Women’s Day marketing campaign on Women at Work elevating the essential subject of management roles for girls within the workspace and equal alternatives for all.”
“Through my movies, I have portrayed different characters that provide an alternative to stereotyping of female actors, fully aware that cinema can have a lasting impression on people. I look forward to contributing my part to creating conversations on this theme during my association with UNDP”, she concludes.
