Krishnan and S. Panju, famously known as Krishnan-Panju, primarily labored in Tamil cinema. The duo created a number of milestone movies like Parasakthi and Ratha Kanneer. The duo established a cinematic blueprint for others to comply with.
It is pretty ordinary for director duos and writers to separate after working collectively for a substantial interval. However, Krishnan and Panju had been fairly reverse the stream. They remained collectively till the latter died in 1984.
They collaborated in Kandhan Studio on the Tamil movie Araichimani or Manuneethi Chozhan (1942), helmed by P. Okay. Raja Sandow. At the time, Krishnan and Panju turned friends. When Raja Sandow recognised their skills, he despatched them to his subsequent enterprise, Poompavai. Poompavai (1944) was their debut movie as administrators. They created Nallathambi in 1949, impressed by Mr Deeds Goes to Town, during which C. N. Annadurai, the previous Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, made his screenwriting debut.
They created Parasakthi in 1952, with dialogues written by M. Karunanidhi, who ultimately turned the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Parasakthi turned a cult basic in Tamil cinema, influencing the formation of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a regional political group in Tamil Nadu.
Thespian Sivaji Ganesan additionally debuted with Krishnan-Panchu’s directorial try.
They collaborated on 56 movies in varied languages alongside MGR, SSR, Bhanumathy, Sharada, MR Radha, Nagesh, Sivakumar, and others.
In 2017, actor Suriya and his father Sivakumar premiered a documentary titled The Pioneering Duo on Krishnan-Panchu, the famed writer-director-producer-editor tandem of Indian movie, on the Russian Cultural Center in Chennai. The documentary was directed by G. Dhananjayan, who received the Best Critic Award on the National Film Awards.
At the premiere occasion, Suriya stated, “After witnessing the physique of labor of Krishnan– Panchu through this documentary, I ask myself, ‘what have I achieved up to now?'”
