Pakistan Tour of Sri Lanka Curtailed to Two Tests After ODI Series Scrapped: Report

The Pakistan cricket staff will solely play a two-match Test sequence in opposition to Sri Lanka throughout their tour of the island nation because the three-match One-day International sequence has reportedly been scrapped.

The Pakistan cricket staff is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in July-August this yr, with the sequence being part of the 2021/2023 ICC World Test Championship. The last dates of the tour are but to be finalised.

The three-match ODI sequence was not part of the ICC World Cup Super League.

A report in Cricket Pakistan stated that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take away ODIs as they had been planning to stage the Lanka Premier League (LPL) “one week earlier than the scheduled time”.

The report quoting PCB director, media, Sami-ul-Hasan Burney, said that, “Sri Lankan board wants to start their league a week ago to reduce the financial deficit, so they asked us to remove the ODI series, which was accepted. Since the ODIs were not part of the World Cup Super League, we did not object. The final schedule of the series is still being discussed and will be released soon.”

The report added that the month-long Australian tour of Sri Lanka in June-July may nicely determine the way forward for worldwide cricket within the island nation. Australia are scheduled to start the tour with the primary of the three T20I in Colombo on June 7, which might be adopted by a five-match ODI sequence and eventually the 2 Tests in Galle.

It stated that if Cricket Australia (CA) say ‘no’ to the sequence, given the financial and political turmoil within the island nation, the internet hosting of the Asia Cup in August/September in Sri Lanka may also be in ‘jeopardy’.

The report stated that solely 12 hours of electrical energy was being offered to households within the nation, including that because of the energy cuts, internet hosting day-night matches may grow to be an issue as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) may face a gas scarcity to run the stadium mills.
