
Union Minister Anurag Thakur has led an Indian delegation to the seventy fifth Cannes Film Festival that’s underway on the French Riviera at present. Thakur inaugurated the India Pavilion and unveiled the poster for 53rd version of (IFFI International Film Festival of India) at Cannes.
While addressing the attendees on the Indian Pavillion at Cannes, the I&B minister introduced main sops to spice up taking pictures of international movies in India. Incentives as much as Rs 2 crore for co-production and as much as Rs 2.5 crore for taking pictures international movies in India have been introduced. “Indian cinema is a story of human talent, triumph and the trajectory of New India. Cinema has emerged as instrument of our soft power in last seven decades,” Anurag Thakur stated.
Indian Ambassador to France, Shri Jawed Ashraf, stated, “Indian cinema, an instrument of soft power, has made world know India better.”
Dressed in conventional apparel, the 11-member Indian delegation led by Thakur walked the crimson carpet on the Cannes Film Festival, the place India has been named because the ‘country of honour’ on the Marche du Film, the enterprise counterpart of the marquee occasion. Mame Khan, the standard Manganiyar singer from Rajasthan, turned the primary people artiste to open the crimson carpet occasion for the Indian contingent at Cannes.
Donning a cream-coloured bandhgala, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Thakur, together with music maestro A R Rahman, composer Ricky Kej, lyricist and poet Prasoon Joshi, and veteran director Shekhar Kapur, walked the crimson carpet to attend the screening of opening movie “Coupez” (Final Cut) by French director Michel Hazanavicius.
The ten celebrities, who accompanied the minister included musical maestros, famend movie makers and actors who signify a kaleidoscope of range from varied areas, languages, mainstream and OTT-led cinema. Ambassadors from regional cinemas have been a part of the delegation, sending the sign to the world that India – which boasts of 25 regional movie industries – has many alternative flavours and types to supply when it comes to movie manufacturing. R Madhavan, actor and producer who labored in motion pictures in six completely different languages, and Telugu superstars Tamannah Bhatia and Pooja Hegde made their dazzling look as a part of the delegation.
India can also be a rustic of honour’ on the ‘Cannes Next’, below which 5 new startups could be given a possibility to pitch to the audio-visual business. Ten professionals will take part on the Animation Day networking. As a serious spotlight of India’s participation at this version of Cannes Film Festival, World Premiere of film Rocketry, produced by R Madhavan, is scheduled to be showcased on the Palais des Festivals on May 19.
