Cricket Australia’s (CA) new chairman Lachlan Henderson is reportedly “open to recommendation” on separate coaches for the Test and limited-overs sides in the aftermath of head coach Justin Langer’s controversial exit and the team’s interim coach Andrew McDonald calling for “the role to be revised”.
Henderson, who’s CA’s third chairman in 5 months, changing interim chairman Richard Freudenstein, added that teaching is a “very time-consuming function for one particular person” and perhaps a “more distributed method of coaching” was the best way ahead for Australian cricket.

A report in Sydney Morning Herald stated on Monday that the brand new CA chairman was eager to “transfer rapidly” to appoint a men’s head coach “but may consider splitting the role once the preferred candidate is in place”.
McDonald, who was Langer’s assistant, was appointed interim coach after the previous Australian opener stepped down following disagreement over the phrases of contract renewal.
McDonald will board the flight to Pakistan with the staff for his or her month-long tour subsequent month.
“I’m open to recommendation on that (cut up teaching),” the report quoted Henderson as saying.
“I think it is a very time-consuming role for one individual and maybe a more distributed method of coaching is the way of the future,” the brand new CA chairman advised ABC radio.
“They’re the form of issues which can be taking part in out in the mean time. We are going for a single head coach to be put in within the close to future. “There hasn’t been a cut up function. There’s nothing to go off. I believe the artwork is who can take the leap and, in the event that they get it proper, I believe you’ll have probably coaches teaching for longer as a result of it’s such a busy job.”
Henderson said he will initiate discussions with support staff, high-performance experts and the selectors on the issue of split coaching.
“They’re the ones who’ll be making a recommendation to the board. The board looks at the information presented to it and then will make the call based on that recommendation,” he stated, including that the method shouldn’t take very lengthy.
“It’s not going to be an extended and drawn-out course of and clearly we’ve received an interim coach already put in,” Henderson stated.
The report said that the appointment of full-time coach could be made as early as next month when the team is in Pakistan.
